Baby elephants are the most valuable commodities in elephant tourism, but they aren't required to be registered until they reach eight years old. Poachers and trainers take advantage of this legal loophole to capture wild elephants for domestication and a lifetime of confinement. At The Rainforest Site, nearly 50,000 people have petitioned Thailand's Department of National Parks to intervene in this trade.
