An unusually dry summer in British Columbia left black bears fighting for survival. Wildfires in various areas destroyed further feed and habitat. Unfortunately this resulted in the bears are invading residential areas to feed themselves and their young.
By October 2010, Northern Lights Wildlife Society had received 21 black bear cubs for rehabilitation and eventually reintroduction into the wild.
Bear cubs will stay in the shelter for up to 15 months. With many other shelters unable to work with such large animals, Northern Lights has become a last refuge for bears from all over British Columbia. You can learn more about their work by clicking here.
