Reading with a warm puppy improves skills

SitStayRead dogIn 2010, GreaterGood.org’s donations to SitStayRead provided 416 individual reading sessions for second graders.

In the program, struggling readers are paired with trained volunteers and "reading assistance" dogs to develop fundamental reading skills.

"Proven results demonstrate SitStayRead’s effectiveness,"  said MaryEllen Schneider, Executive Director. On average, children participating in the program show an increase of 43 words per minute.

"The foundation is being laid for children to feel proud and to become successful, responsible adults," Schneider added.
