The natural springs of Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge's Kings Bay is being overcrowded by manatees seeking refuge from danger and freezing waters.
Tourists flock to this area, with boats, kayaks and snorkeling gear, and will often grab, grope, and harrass these gentle giants. Although manatees are more than friendly, the number of tourists often hinders their ability to gain access to the warmer waters of Kings Bay.
La Tortuga Viva ("Living Turtle" in Spanish) is a turtle sanctuary in Juluchuca, Guerrero, Mexico. Since 2010, they have hatched and released over 300,000 baby turtles: mostly Olive Ridley turtles (Golfina), as well as Black Turtles and Leatherback turtles, which are considered critically endangered on the IUCN Red List.
You can help. This Gift That Gives More™ helps 100 baby turtles in Mexico hatch and make it safely to their new life in the ocean.
