A celebration of nature and of place, this inspired necklace incorporates silver, wood, and textiles that reflect the roots of the artisan who designed it. Featuring a sterling leaf pendant inset with dark native hardwoods and strung on a combination of sterling chain and organza ribbons, this necklace was designed by Martha Vargas to embody the magic of the Michoacán region of Mexico where she was raised.

Inspired since childhood to create jewelry by artisans in the town of Pátzcuaro where she grew up, Martha graduated from clay to stones and silver, always in harmony with the materials found near home and the people who provided them. She obtained her degree in design from the School of Design of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), and then returned to Michoacán to develop her own collection. Today, the traditional craftsmen who inspired Martha work side by side with her to make her designs a reality, giving them all a sense of pride to see their native Mexican art spread beyond borders.

Leaf pendant measures 0.75" L (1.9 cm) and comes on an 16" L (40.6 cm) combination .925 sterling and organza ribbon chain that secures with a sterling S-hook closure. Necklace comes in a woven natural cotton pouch with a leather label announcing it as a Martha Vargas design. Handmade in and fairly traded from Mexico.
