February 13, 2015 - This is one of my favorite things I own, the color of the stone is brilliant and vibrant, the band is unique but the only downside i see is the braided could snag on things. Overall I love it!
June 19, 2014 - It has a beautiful stone but the band is soft braid so it spins a lot. I'm thinking about just having the stone made into a necklace.
March 6, 2014 - This ring is definitely hand-made, but the slight imperfections add to its character. It is very pretty, but very fragile. The band is not rigid. It is actually a thin chain of silver. It would likely snag a sweater. The stone is very nice. Not bad for the money.
February 12, 2014 - The ring I received had a much thinner band than shown. Not that noticeable that band is braided, but braiding is thicker on one side of the stone than the other. Amethyst stone is nice.
November 11, 2013 - I adore this ring! The stone is a gorgeous purple, the braided band is beautiful and so comfortable to wear and the size is true to size unlike the wider bands that I have bought! My daughter has "borrowed" it so often I now take it everywhere I go if not wearing it and I am going to buy her one for Christmas so she will leave mine alone! You will not be disappointed if you buy this ring!!!
Artisan: Alvaro Carreno
Up in the steep hills overlooking the heart of Cuzco, Peru, you will find the artisan quarter of San Blas at over 11,000 feet (3,400 meters) above sea level. Dominated by the Iglesia de San Blas, which features an inspiring cedar pulpit carved from a single tree trunk and is the oldest parish church in Cuzco, narrow, twisting streets snake off throughout the neighborhood, packed with small galleries and craft workshops. It is here in this rarefied atmosphere of artistry and tradition that Alvaro Carreno crafts some of the most distinctive jewelry in the Andes.
Award-winning Peruvian artisan Alvaro Carreno maintains a unique jewelry-crafting style that produces some of Peru's most innovative, yet time-honored, designs. Working from his shop in the San Blas artist neighborhood of Cuzco, his jewelry incorporates ancient Incan design elements brought into modern-day focus. His jewelry tends to incorporate precious and semi-precious stones set into unique sterling silver settings, including hammered and his signature "rolled" designs.
