Lifesaving Surgery for the Developing World

Help bring modern medicine to those who otherwise can't access it.
When citizens of developing countries require sophisticated medical help, all too often the story ends there. Partners in Health's Right to Health Care program is helping to change this, and now you can participate!
How You Can Help
Here is one story of a child helped through this humanitarian program. Dumanel was born in rural Haiti with a rare defect called an encephalocele, which allows brain tissue to protrude through the skull. Hoping to save his life, his father sold his only two cows to afford transportation to the town where Partners in Health was hosting visiting doctors to perform cleft palate repairs.
One of the doctors identified Dumanel's condition, but operating on it in Haiti was impossible due to limited funds, equipment, and training. To further complicate matters, Dumanel had a second, serious medical complication, a cyst in his brain. To save Dumanel's life, Partners in Health and Children's Hospital worked to make surgery possible in Boston.
Surgery was successful, but difficult, taking ten painstaking hours and three surgeons. Today, Dumanel is a happy toddler who has a future and a very relieved family.
The Right to Health Care project provides high-quality medical care to patients with conditions that are routinely and effectively treated with modern medicine, but who live in countries without these resources.
Other success stories include a 14-year-old boy from Haiti who underwent treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma in Boston, MA; two children and two teenagers from Haiti who went to Guatemala for heart surgery; and a woman from Lesotho who was flown to Ethiopia for fistula repair.
You can help give happy endings to others like Dumanel. This Gift That Gives More™ goes to Partners in Health's Right to Health Care program, helping provide the benefits of First World medicine to those in desperate need.
