Recycled Magazine Bead Swirl Earrings
Hand-coated with lacquer and rolled into beads, recycled magazine pages become eclectic, one-of-a-kind earrings. Women artisans in Uganda make each bead by hand, then trade them to Kenya where they're hand-strung by another group of women artisans. Each is paid a wage about five times higher than the national average -- now that's fair trade!
- Recycled magazine beads, sterling silver wire
- 1" H (2.5 cm)
- Handmade in and fairly traded from Kenya and Uganda
Created to help women worldwide gain economic security for themselves and their families by earning fair wages for their handiwork, Global Girlfriend sources women-made, fair-trade imported, eco-friendly products. By supporting long-term partnerships with the artisans, it fosters equal employment opportunities, healthy and safe working conditions, technical assistance, and development strategies to help reduce poverty, one community at a time. January 4, 2014 - These earrings are ok. The magazine beads on my earrings have very little color, and for some reason seems huge compared to the rest of the earring. I do like the shape of the metal part of the earrings.
