Help Pets Affected by Superstorm Sandy
Help shelters rescue and care for animals affected by Superstorm Sandy.
Superstorm Sandy was one of the worst weather events in recent U.S. history. Millions lost power, and homes and infrastructure alike were damaged or destroyed by high winds, storm surge, and intense flooding. Several states have declared an official emergency.
Pets are especially vulnerable during huge weather events like this one. So, our charitable partners are providing emergency shelter, first aid, and rescue where needed to make sure pets stay as safe as their owners during the storm and its aftermath.
You can help! Your donation will support rescue groups and shelters along the East Coast as they provide food, clean water, shelter, and emergency aid to pets and comfort to their families in the aftermath of the Superstorm.
Our partners are working hard to ensure that pets get the help they need.
Thank you for helping pets in the wake of Superstorm Sandy!
Report from the Field
On November 5th, GreaterGood.org sent the first grants made possible by this Gift: $10,000 each for the Woodbridge Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of Atlantic County which have been hard hit by the flooding. An additional $25,000 has been sent to the International Fund for Animal Welfare to aid their efforts to rescue animals left behind in flooded areas.
"We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts for what you are doing for us," wrote Heather Campione, Woodbridge Animal Shelter Supervisor. "The water surge filled our basement and came five feet into our main floor." Although able to move the animals out of harm's way, the shelter lost most of their supplies, medicines, and food. "Because of your kindness, we will be back on all four paws very shortly," added Campione.
Throughout November, additional grants were sent to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, Animal Alliance, Animal Lifeline, and Red Rover as well.
This Gift also supported temporary shelters and supplies for pet owners currently unable to feed or house their pet. These grants went to Rescue Bank, ASPCA, International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), and the Humane Society of United States (HSUS) for their efforts throughout the communities hit by Superstorm Sandy.
